Studio Soldout is an Istanbul studio where material and production knowledge lead the design. The forms are contemporary and restrained, with a measured production decision behind every detail.

The studio came out of an argument. İbrahim Fatih Satılmış and his brother İsmail Cihan Satılmış spent years on the same question: should design answer to aesthetics, or start from an engineering problem. They never closed it. In 2024 they built the studio on top of the argument, because the only place it can be answered is the object.

Crackdown was the first design. It began as a question about how an angular metal body could sit with a round glass globe, and it stayed in drawings and models until the proportions were right. We still work in that order: the question, then the material, and the form last.

Satılmış read industrial design engineering, then took a master's in product and furniture design at Kingston University in London. Before the studio he worked in decorative lighting, on the production side, for other people's brands. What stayed with him from those years is that a drawing is only as good as its answer on the workshop floor.

Design here starts with the material. A sample arrives, we try it, most of the time it fails. Leather becomes the structure that carries the light, chiffon softens it, parchment lets it through. Each of these asks for a different craft, so we work with makers who know their own material. Everything is made in Istanbul.

How a piece is put together depends on the piece, and the method is chosen for the part. What does not change is that it should still be serviceable years later.
