About
Studio Soldout is an Istanbul studio where material and production knowledge lead the design. Contemporary, restrained forms, with a measured production decision behind every detail.
İbrahim Fatih Satılmış founded the studio and runs it with his brother, İsmail Cihan Satılmış. Every piece begins with an engineering question: how is this cut, how does it join, how is it serviced in ten years. The form is not settled until the answer is.
Satılmış read industrial design engineering, then took a master's in product and furniture design at Kingston University in London. Before founding the studio he worked in decorative lighting, on the production side, for other people's brands. That period taught him how things are actually made, which is why nothing here is drawn without knowing how it will be cut and how it will be serviced.
Design here begins with the material: samples, trials, failures. Every body is screwed rather than glued, so the glass can be changed, the lampholder can be changed, the cable can be changed. Making is the step that makes the design definite.
